My Dad lived in Trefor during WWII - his Dad was the station master at Llangollen at the time. My Dad tells me thst he could jump across the canal at the point just before it goes across Pontcysyllte Aqueduct!! I've seen it - not sure I could do it! :) Just stumbled across your blog!
